Google humor? Everything always comes back to the toilet
I found a funny Google How-To the other day – for Google TiSP, the Toilet Internet Service Provider. Obviously, I thought, this has to be a joke… but I read thru the entire page, with it’s detailed snapshots and even a picture of the TiSP kit – a nice touch, I might add.

I actually had to stop and GOOGLE Google TiSP to see if this was real.
Sad, I know. The time and creativity that went into creating this idea and the web page that goes with it is amazing, if you stop to think about it. I can practically see the Goog team sitting around laughing and having a good time with this idea.
There was time and love spent on this copy:
Google TiSP (BETA) is a fully functional, end-to-end system that provides in-home wireless access by connecting your commode-based TiSP wireless router to one of thousands of TiSP Access Nodes via fiber-optic cable strung through your local municipal sewage lines.
While I was appreciating the humor in this idea, it occurred to me that humor is something sorely lacking over at that other computer giant…. Microsoft.
Sure, they’ve answered MAC’s cool ads with their own version – and answered the MAC OS with new Windows 7 – but really, that isn’t what I would call real creativity. That’s taking a formula that is proven and tweaking it slightly to make it work for YOU.
I expect a little more from a company before I truly feel like they are working FOR me. Simply putting up a bunch of videos with random people saying that ‘Windows 7 was MY idea’ isn’t enough. Simpler? Faster? How about if it doesn’t prevent my CURRENT applications from running? THAT would be a bonus.
So I guess what I’m saying is this: Big Computer Companies – let’s develop a sense of humor, a bit of fun and try for some creativity. Not EVERYONE can come up with Internet-in-a-Toilet.
